Guess who’s coming to dinner.
NHL player-turned-broadcaster Colby Armstrong (left in photo) is the guest speaker for the 2016 Telus Cup West banquet, presented by Co-op, on April 2 at the Hilton Garden Inn.
A feisty competitor, Armstrong is also known for his colorful personality and a unique vocabulary which has inspired a T-shirt or two. (Exhibit A: The “Half clapper, top cheddar” shirt which was born in 2011 after a guest appearance on the TSN panel.)
Armstrong grew up in the Saskatoon Redwings zone. He went on to play midget AAA with the Saskatoon Blazers before graduating to the WHL where he won the 2001 Memorial Cup with the Red Deer Rebels. The 6-foot-3 winger went on to play 12 professional seasons including time with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Atlanta Thrashers, Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens, as well as Vaxjo HC of the Swedish Hockey League.
Armstrong also represented Canada at the 2007 IIHF world championship in Moscow, netting the game-winning goal in the gold-medal game against Finland.
Since retiring after the 2013-14 season, Armstrong has become a regular member of the Rogers Sportsnet hockey panel.
Tickets for the Telus Cup West banquet are available for $40 each. Tables of eight can also be purchased. To reserve your tickets, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or call (306) 251-2933.
