Winnipeg 3, Notre Dame 1

The Notre Dame Hounds peppered 36 shots at Winnipeg Wild goalie Mitchel Adamyk but could solve him only once as the Manitoba champions kicked off the tournament with a 3-1 victory.

The Wild struck twice in the final six minutes of the opening frame thanks to goals by Brett Namaka and Ian Briscoe (power play).

The Hounds turned up the heat in the second, outshooting Winnipeg 14-7, but couldn’t solve Adamyk until 6:26 of the third when Adam Dawe tallied on a power play. The Wild’s Rylan Bettens stunted that momentum, though, scoring just 1:53 later to restore Winnipeg’s two-goal lead.

Notre Dame netminder Tanner Douglas made 17 saves in the loss.
