The Winnipeg Wild is headed back to familiar territory – the Telus Cup West regional tournament.
The Wild captured the Manitoba Midget AAA Hockey League championship March 23 with a 5-4 win over the Eastman Selects. Winnipeg eliminated the top-seeded Selects from Beausejour with a 3-1 series victory.
The Wild celebrates its fourth league title in five seasons and sixth since 2005. Regional success has been more elusive, though. The Wild returns to Telus Cup West for the first time since 2014 when the team posted a 1-2-0 record and missed the playoffs. In six appearances, the club has not advanced past the regional level.
Winnipeg opens Telus Cup West on March 31 against the Saskatchewan champions.
